Flying into San Diego International (SAN) is about a forty-five minutes south of the venue. McClellan-Palomar (CLD) in Carlsbad is closer if you find a flight.

You don't need to rent a car, Uber and Lyft work well in the area. A rental is handy if you want to explore the coast or wine country between events.

The villa sits in the hills above the San Diego Zoo Safari Park (twenty minutes), with the beaches of Carlsbad and Encinitas a half-hour west.

Temecula is just twenty minutes north, and has great wine country to explore.

Late August in the hills above Escondido runs hot and dry through the early afternoon, topping out in the low nineties, then drops fast once the sun is off the hills. The evening lands in the good part — easing out of the mid–eighties and into the seventies by the end of the night.

a word to the wise

It is a dry heat, and the shade is genuinely comfortable — but it will be right around 90° when the ceremony begins, so please drink water through the afternoon and consider a hat for the hours beforehand. Once the sun drops behind the hills it cools quickly, so bring a light layer for the evening. Grass and garden paths make block heels friendlier than stilettos.
